Port Wine Tasting in Lisbon

Port is a fortified wine from the Douro Valley in northern Portugal. Grape brandy is added during fermentation, which stops it and keeps the natural sweetness of the grapes. In our Port wine tasting in Lisbon, you compare the four main styles side by side with dark chocolate, in one hour, without travelling to Porto. €39 per person.

We did the Port tasting and it was mega! Tried half a dozen varieties with chocolates and loads of info. Elliott is very knowledgeable and generous. We saw the wine sampling being done to another group after whilst we tried some of the same wines…
Come for the tasting, stay for the afters! Such a cool place, people were making and painting tiles in the art studios in the back. And if you go out the front door and walk up the hill you’ve got one of the best free views of the City!
Will defo do this again when next in Lisbon as the wine cellar is very inviting!

How much does a wine tasting in Lisbon cost?

At Lisbon Wine Tasting, a guided tasting of 5 Portuguese wines costs €35 per person. The Port Wine Tasting (4 Ports with chocolate) costs €39, and the Wine & Cheese tasting (4 wines, 2 Ports and a cheese and charcuterie board) costs €59. Hen parties are €65 per person (minimum 6 guests) and private groups are priced on request.

Where can I do a Port wine tasting in Lisbon?

You can taste Port at POP, Rua da Senhora do Monte 38C, in the Graça district. The Port Wine Tasting lasts one hour and covers the four main styles side by side: White, Ruby, 10 Year Tawny and LBV, paired with dark chocolate. There is no need to travel to Porto. How long does the tasting last?

The 5-wine tasting and the Port tasting last about one hour. The Wine & Cheese tasting and hen parties last about one hour and thirty minutes.

How many guests are there per session?

Sessions are limited to 10 guests so that everyone can ask questions. Private tastings in our back room host from 6 to 15 guests.

Do I need to know about wine?

No. Most guests are curious beginners. The sommelier explains grapes, regions and producers in simple words, in English, French, Portuguese or Spanish.

Where is the tasting and how do I get there?

The tasting takes place at POP, a Portuguese wine and gourmet shop at Rua da Senhora do Monte 38C, Graça, Lisbon. Take Tram 28 to the Graça stop (5 minutes on foot) or bus 737. From Baixa-Chiado it is a 15 to 20 minute walk uphill. The Miradouro da Senhora do Monte viewpoint is 30 metres away.

Is this a wine tour?

It is a guided wine tasting in the centre of Lisbon, not a vineyard tour. You taste wines from all the main Portuguese regions in one hour, with no transport and no full day away from the city. See wine tour from Lisbon or tasting in the city to choose.

Can I buy the wines I taste?

Yes. Every wine you taste is sold in the shop at retail price, with 5% off on the day of your tasting. POP stocks more than 250 Portuguese wines from small producers.
